The manual contains ten key steps for a human rights litigation strategy: 1. Identify the injustice that is sought to be remedied. 2. Visualize the goal. 3. Develop the legal strategy. 4. Select the parts. 5. Assess risks and resources. 6. Collect the evidence. 7. Develop legal arguments. 8. Build the dissemination strategy. 9. Ensuring a win is effective or investing in a loss. 10. Evaluation and learning. The manual presents the theory behind each of these steps with examples of real cases brought by Dejusticia and The Legal Agenda. This model, based on our litigation practice, is not intended to be prescriptive. Rather, it is a constantly evolving set of tools that must be improved with the lessons learned from each case. Because learning is central to this model, we encourage readers to continue to build on it with each new case they have the opportunity to work on.
